Apple introduced the iPhone 4S today, along with new versions of the iPod Touch and Nano.
The most interesting feature is probably Siri – a voice activated virtual assistant that answers questions like, “What’s the weather like today?” by forwarding you to a weather app. Interesting feature, especially for those with limited hand mobility. Note that this feature is limited to the iPhone 4S.
Otherwise, the iPhone 4S includes a faster A5 processor, up to 7x faster than current models. Big improvements are also on the way for the camera and camcorder, including 8MP resolution, image stabilization, and faster camera app launch time. These features should come as a welcome relief to amateur photographers. Also worthy of note is a new dual antenna system capable of effectively doubling transfer rates, which is great for video streaming but buyer beware of data overages.
Apple is taking preorders of the iPhone 4S starting October 7th in the US, Canada, Australia, the UK, France, Germany and Japan for shipment by October 14th. It will be available in black and white, 16 GB for $199, 32 GB for $299, $64 GB for $399, with a two year contract.
